Energy Brigades for the Eco School To train the first volunteers in December 1999, the Ukrainian Energy Brigades arranged to weatherise the Eco School in the West Ukrainian town of Rivne. Rivne is an important town for the Ukrainian Energy Brigades, as it is near to a new nuclear power plant, projected as a replacement for the Chernobyl NPPs. The Ukrainian Energy Brigades want to show Rivne locals with this project, that there are other alternatives to Chernobyl than more risky nuclear capacity. The Eco School gives young inhabitants from Rivne a chance to learn skills like nature protection, environmental analysis, environmental management, English language and computer work. As a result the temperature in these rooms rose in winter with 5 degrees centigrade. |
