The Bulgarian Energy Brigades started
their work in 1999.
Bulgaria is for its energy supply for a large
part depending on coal and wood - and electricity, which is for the majority
generated by the outdated and generally considered to be unsafe Kozloduj
nuclear power plant.
The Bulgarian Energy Brigades want to show with their programme, that energy efficiency is much more logical answer to the
country's problems in energy policy and in the country's economic and social
situation, than continuing dependence on nuclear power.
By working with partners from different social
sectors, the economic viability of simple energy efficiency techniques is
made very obvious. At the same time, the Bulgarian Energy Brigades
are a catalyst for community building amongst socially weaker groups.
